These days, fashion changes even faster than seasons and it is difficult to keep up with the changing trends. Hence, more and more women try to find their individual style instead of blindly following fashion guidelines. However, there are some who still believe in the herd mentality. We ask some of our male readers to list some of the fashion trends, be it in clothing, accessories or make-up, that they find absolutely ridiculous.
The ones they think women should do away with. And here’s what they had to say:
Vignesh Nair, 21, Account Associate: The huge bangle-like earrings (hoops.) I know multi-purpose is cool, but bangles look good on the hands, ONLY!
Yash Sawant, 22, Student: Those fake, coloured hair things (coloured hair extensions) that girls wear . I am not talking about wigs, those single strand ones look so fake.
Sreenivasan Iyer, 23, Technical Writer: I wonder why girls wear very high heels especially when they don’t make walking any easier. I don’t think they ever thought about what they would if they were chased by a dog! Sabyasachi Mukherjee once said that he would look up to the woman who is 5’1 but does not wear heels. I agree with him.
Reagan Gavin Rasquinha, 33, Mediaperson: I’d have to say those transparent plastic bra-straps that women sometimes clip on and wear when they wear a strapless or spaghetti strap top. It looks a tad tacky.
Salim Khan, 40, Technician in an Offshore company: Women with really stubby fingers wearing red nail polish is an absolutely no-no and sporting nail polish on hardly-there nails is a complete horror. Also, women on the heavier side who wear leggings along with short tops. It shows off every ounce of flesh , making them look like a teapot. They make a laughing stock of themselves. And women who wear trousers that show off their undies, please invest in some good-quality innerwear.
Rishita Kansar, student of Fashion Designing says: Many women buy push-up bras without even knowing whether they need it. Women who are small on the bust can carry off push-up bras under a tight tee but women who are already fairly gifted in this department do not need push-ups at all as it highlights the bust. And really it’s just not classy to show off cleavage unnecessarily.
Gavin Miguel, Designer cum Stylist: Huge monograms on sunglasses that you can spot from a mile away look hideous. Women should totally refrain from wearing them.
Rick Roy, Stylist: I think women wearing shiny headbands in the gym is ridiculous. I see a lot of women wearing heavy make-up and shiny clothes in the gym and it just doesn’t make sense as it isn’t appropriate for working out.
